Start before you’re ready

It’s easy to talk yourself out of doing important work because you’re not ready to start. You convince yourself that you just need a little more time, a few more resources, or a better plan before you can really dive in. You think that if you wait until the conditions are perfect, the work will be easier and the results will be better.

That project you’re thinking of starting. The paper you want to write. The email that needs to be sent. All the things that you’ve convinced yourself can wait for later.

It’s easy to convince yourself that you’re not ready and if you wait just a little longer than things will be easier. Waiting rarely makes things easier. Most of the time, waiting makes things harder. The right time is now.

Shane Parrish

It takes courage to take that first step, even when everything isn’t perfectly aligned. It can be scary to start a new project or task when you don’t feel 100% prepared. And it’s natural to want to wait until all the pieces are in place. But the truth is, you’ll likely never feel fully ready. There will always be more to learn, more resources to gather, more planning to do.

So start before you’re ready. Start with what you have, right now. Start messy, start imperfect. And then refine as you go.

Starting is it’s own form of success.

Starting today, versus starting when you're ready.
