Writing regularly changes what you pay attention to
by
I often find my attention being hijacked by whatever happens to show up in my feed. And in the moment, that content may very well be interesting. The problem is that so much information can be interesting while still having relatively little value.
When I’ve set aside 1-2 hours of writing time every day, my attention naturally drifts towards sources that are linked to whatever I’m writing about, and away from distractions in those areas. By writing regularly, my informational landscape becomes more constrained.
This can all contribute to making me feel less pressured to pay attention to everything that might have value. Because it very quickly becomes clear that the time you spend on that which is interesting, doesn’t move forward that which has value.
When your writing is linked to high-value projects it becomes harder to justify the attention you pay to that which is merely interesting.
