Goal-driven motivation: Writing when you don’t feel like it

Reminding yourself of why this project is important to you and how finishing it might help you achieve your goals is another helpful tactic when you’re trying to get started.

Although I love writing, there are times when I find it difficult to get going. I’m aware that there are always other tasks that seem more urgent in the moment. I need to remind myself why writing today, now, is going to move me closer to a higher goal.

I think of this as goal-driven motivation. This is the incentive to do something I know is valuable in the long-term, when I’m not motivated to work on it in the short-term.
