Building a community of calm academics

If you’re like many of the academics I work with, you’re probably feeling the constant pressure to do more with less while trying to carve out time for the work that really matters. That’s why I’m excited to announce that Head space is expanding its online presence to help you build sustainable academic workflows, right where you are.

You may be wondering why I’m creating more social media accounts, especially after I stopped posting to Twitter more than a year ago. At the time it felt like it was taking a lot of mental energy trying to ensure that the account was active, and I resented the feeling that I was simply feeding the machine. However, during that period the Head space website was a very different thing to what it is today. The Twitter account was completely separate and I wasn’t posting anything to the website at all. Now that I post here first, the whole dynamic has changed.

I’m no longer posting to social media in the hope that it drives people to the website; I’m posting to the website and using social media to share those posts as widely as possible.

Platforms

You can now find Head space on several platforms where I’ll be sharing regular insights, practical tips, and thoughtful reflections on creating space for meaningful academic work:

All my posts from Head space will be published on all of these platforms, so there’s no need to sign up to all of them. One will do. However, even if you already follow the blog and get posts delivered directly to your inbox, it’s still helpful for you to follow me on social media, as this helps promote Head space to others.

How you can help

If you find value in the Head space approach to calm academic productivity, please consider following these accounts and sharing them with colleagues who might benefit from a more sustainable approach to academic work. Together, we can build a community that supports meaningful scholarship without the burnout.

The path to sustainable academic practice starts with small steps. Take one today by following Head space on your social media platform of choice.
