Emergent scholarship is a forward-looking, interdisciplinary approach to knowledge creation and dissemination, embracing the principles of emergence observed in complex systems.
Scholarship is fundamentally about creating, validating, and sharing knowledge that moves society forward. However, our current academic practices were largely designed for a different era – one with different technologies, social structures, and ways of working. While traditional scholarship has given us valuable tools like peer review and systematic inquiry, it has also created bottlenecks in knowledge dissemination and barriers to public engagement, as well as perverse incentives that negatively influence decisions around scholarly practice.
Emergent scholarship is a project that aims to explore alternative approaches to thinking about, and engaging with, scholarly practices.
