Coaching

Are you struggling to make progress on a professional development project that will help you move your career forward? Just as athletes train with purpose, academics can achieve breakthrough results through structured, intentional practice that creates space to focus on high-value projects. Head Space coaching sessions are designed for academics who would benefit from guidance and support to move high-value projects forward.

  • Identify a high-value project you’d like to make progress on and relate your current practice to relevant milestones in that project
  • Set short-term, achievable goals and link those goals to a practical workflow that takes place in a space of calm productivity
  • Establish a focused feedback loop where we discuss a range of principles and routines that you can integrate into your daily schedule

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.

FAQ

Each session includes a one-hour focused coaching conversation, personalised workflow recommendations, and follow-up resources to support your implementation. The fee reflects both the direct coaching time and my expertise in academic productivity systems developed over 15 years in higher education. When implemented effectively, these systems typically help academics save 30+ minutes per day in productive time – translating to roughly £50 in value per week based on average UK academic salaries. Early commitment is rewarded with a 50% discount on your first session.

How many sessions will I need?

While there’s no minimum commitment, most academics find that 3-4 sessions over a two-month period allows enough time to establish new routines and see meaningful changes in their workflow. You’re welcome to continue with additional sessions or conclude the coaching relationship at any point. If you’ve paid in advance for sessions you don’t use, you’ll receive a full refund for those unused sessions.

What can I expect from the coaching relationship?

My role is to help you develop sustainable systems and workflows that create space for your high-value academic work. I’ll share strategies, provide accountability, and help troubleshoot challenges. However, the success of these sessions depends on our mutual commitment – I bring expertise in academic productivity systems, while you bring dedication to implementing and adapting these approaches to your specific context.

Will you review my academic work?

No – these sessions focus specifically on your workflow and productivity systems, not the academic content of your projects. While I have extensive experience in academic work, my role is to help you create the conditions for productive work, not to serve as a subject matter expert or supervisor for your specific projects.

What happens if I’m not satisfied with the sessions?

Your success is important to me. If you feel the coaching isn’t meeting your needs, we’ll discuss adjustments to better serve your goals. While I don’t typically offer refunds for completed sessions (as they represent time and expertise already invested), I’m committed to ensuring you receive tangible value from our work together. The initial 15-minute consultation helps ensure we’re a good fit before any financial commitment.

How do you measure success in these coaching sessions?

Success is measured through concrete improvements in your workflow and productivity systems. We’ll establish clear baseline metrics at the start (like time spent on high-value work, project completion rates, or work-life boundaries) and track progress throughout our sessions. While I can’t guarantee specific project outcomes, I can help you create and maintain systems that make success more likely.
