For almost a year I have been considering setting up daily notes in Obsidian. After reading the Weekly Review lesson I decided that this might be the time to give daily notes a try. I jumped ahead to this lesson — nerded out over the weekend to get it setup — and am about to populate my first daily note!

Hi Lyn. That’s great to hear. I’ve been using daily notes for about 4 years now and I can’t imagine not using them. I’ve been through many variations and updates, and I’ve now settled on a system that works for me. If you’re OK with experimenting to find a workflow that suits you, I’m sure that you’ll find it a useful addition to your process. Let us know how it works out.

I have always been a note-taker, but the problem is that the notes are across different apps and on different devices that I don’t always sync (maybe work and personal- but we have blurred these lines).

When I am at my desk I prefer taking notes by hand because it helps me think a bit better through what I want to do. It also feels rewarding when I draw that thick line through and item when I am done.

I probably need to find a system that houses all the notes together.

For the longest time, I was taking hand-written notes in meetings, and then transcribing them into my daily notes. It was time-consuming and sometimes tedious, but it almost always helped me stay on top of lot of projects. I’ve fallen out of the habit of doing that now though. One thing I can’t stress enough, is that you need to try and consolidate your note-taking for the day into a single place, so that you avoid the overhead of trying to find information across multiple devices and apps.

I am fortunate to work for an organisation that has adopted MS 365 suite, and I have started to use OneNote purely due to it being accessible on the 365 platform wherever I am and whatever device I am using. So, I can access it on my personal phone, desktop and laptop – this means I’ve only got one note system and I don’t have to remember where it is – just how to access it on every device…………..
