I have started to use the weekly review – I call it on-boarding at the start of the week; and then a review looking backward and forward at the end of the week (last thing on a Friday).
This works really well for me, and I’ve downloaded the template and added it to my diary item to see how I can adapt it for my needs.
Thanks MichaelGlad to hear that it’s working for you. I can’t stress enough how valuable the weekly review is for me. It may be the single most impactful thing I do in terms of allowing me to let go of all things work-related.
Hey Michael,
Thank you for this. I need to make a mental note to do this.
I think my weakness is the capturing of handwritten notes and closing all my tabs without either bookmarking it or putting it down in my notes (I keep a sheet with cool apps/websites/ideas which I catalogue for different learning outcomes). I think it boils down to lack of time and poor discipline from my side in this regard.
What I find useful about this lesson is about closing loops. I have tried doing this at the end of the week and often I review mid-week in case I missed anything if I had some high stakes activities going on.
Thanks for the insights.
Regards
SI started with this course in 2023 and couldn’t wrap my head around implementing these things. I started fresh again at the beginning of January. I usually start very enthusiastically with a new method and quickly fail. I now realise the big game changer is the reflection and planning. This is now week 2, and the first 2 weeks ever that I cleared all my work messages and allocated tasks and emails by Friday afternoon.
Hi Tarina. Thanks for highlighting that part of the process. For me, the weekly review probably has the biggest impact on my ability to let things go at the end of each working day. I think it’s because I know that I have this safety net at the end of the week where my system helps me to keep track of all the moving parts in my working life. It’s not something I need to hold in my mind during the week. I’m really pleased to hear that this has been useful.
