Calm productivity is about making progress on meaningful and high-value academic work without feeling stressed, distracted, and burned out. This course was designed for busy academics who want to be productive – or maybe even are productive – but who also believe that their current working practices are reactive and frenetic. By embracing a more sustainable workflow, the Calm Productivity course aims to help you create space in your day without sacrificing your ability to do high-value and meaningful work.

The course consists of five modules that each cover important lever points in academic work, including how we think about scheduling, email, note-taking, information management, and career planning. Lever points are those places in your workflow where relatively small changes to habits and routines can have significant effects.

    Since starting the Calm Productivity course, I have revamped how I work. As a result, I feel more in control of my time. Engaging with the scheduling module allowed me to introduce a workflow that enables me to make time for my priorities while fulfilling my commitments to others. It also gave me a clearer idea of the balance between my current workload and the time available, allowing me to make informed decisions about what I commit to in future and ensuring that I also have time to look after my health and family. The note-taking module inspired me to start a deeper note-taking process, allowing me to reflect more on my work and, in this way, identify strategies to improve my future work. Finally, for the first time in my life, my email inbox and desktop are empty at least once per week, which has organizational, psychological and aesthetic benefits.
