Most academics fill their breaks with pseudo-productive tasks like checking emails or social media. But these aren’t real breaks at all. Learn how taking genuine academic breaks and productivity go hand in hand, and why the most effective breaks are often the ones that feel the least productive.
I’m going to prioritise content creation over social media, after realising life and work proceed without Twitter. The liberation from feeling obligated to keep up with everything has led to decreased anxiety. I’ve experienced a deeper, less performative connection through newsletters, deciding to focus efforts there instead.
Use the time between meetings to make notes, schedule follow-ups, and list the tasks that are your responsibility to complete.
Found time’ is the time you unexpectedly find available to use. Avoid falling into the trap of doom-scrolling on social media when that meeting gets rescheduled. Have a plan for how to use found time.
